Gatradewata News | Denpasar | Nyepi day is coming soon, Nyepi is Balinese Day of Silence that is commemorated every Isakawarsa (ćaka new year) according to the Balinese calender in 2020, it falls on march 25.

Nyepi is a public holiday in Indonesia, is a day of silence, fasting and meditation for the Balinese. The philosophy of this day is,

CATUR BRATA includes Amati Karya, Amati Geni, Amati Lelungaan and Amati Lelanguan.

 The description of these four things include:

 1. Amati Karya: That is, as Hindus are required to stop all kinds of work activities.

 2. Amati Geni: This second point means that all Hindus are required to turn off all energy or not turn on lighting such as lights and fires.

 3. Amati Lelungaan: That is, it is forbidden to travel anywhere.  The recommended thing is to read books or say a prayer during the allotted time.

 4. Amati Lelanguan : The last point is the prohibition to do worldly pleasures, because at this sacred moment is the right time to introspect yourself and clear the mind to welcome the new year.

the activity lasted for 24 hours, starting at 06.00 WIB - until 06.00 WIB on the next day, precisely at Nyepi.

The night before the Silent Day, the Balinese celebrates by showcasing Ogoh-Ogoh parade all through the streets of Bali. Ogoh-Ogoh are statues that symbolize the bad and evil, where initially, they were burnt down after the parade to indicate the vanishing of the demons and the evil.
